This week I am delighted to introduce you to Kate of A Playful Day. I discovered her podcast during my winter hiatus and was delighted when she chose adventure as her theme for the second season. I’m sure you’ll find she’s a kindred spirit too, so without any further ado here is our chat… What drew you to podcasting? I was working in London and commuting in from the suburbs each day when I discovered podcasts. I devoured hours of other people’s creativity and I felt like I wanted to add that conversation. There was a creativity challenge on a blog week and I decided to try a podcast. I loved it and haven’t looked back since. Read more.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to have a sneak peek of the American Made folk art exhibit at Crystal Bridges. And it was stunning! There were a variety of works including signs, paintings, weathervanes, whirligigs, and furniture, but the pieces that really resonated with me were the quilts. Our guide spoke about how young women expressed their creativity through practical means since they weren’t accepted into the wider community of artists. Household items that needed to be made from hand were constructed beautifully. And even Amish quilters who weren’t allowed to use ornamentation used beautifully intricate stitching on their simply designed quilts. What I took away from the exhibit was a renewed sense to look for ways to fit beauty and adventure into the everyday. To make mundane tasks beautiful.
